Wedding season upon us, and as guests we all want to look our best, as we celebrate in the union of our family and friends. For my ladies, shopping for a wedding guest dress can be an exhilarating feeling when you’ve found the one, but in truth the process can be quite daunting.  For every woman, the intricate details from the cut, fit, style and colour all play an important role in finding the perfect dress that will compliment them wholeheartedly.

Just recently I attended a friend’s wedding not only as guest but also as a hostess.  My role as a hostess was an important deciding factor in selecting a dress, as it involved interacting with many of the guests and undoubtedly being on my feet for the most part.  With these things in mind I opted for a dress that was classic and comfortable, with the detailing of the dress being the focal point.

The search to find the perfect dress was by no means an overnight process and on my journey, I purchased two other dresses with this dress being the ONE!  While everyone’s reasons may differ, here are 5 things that can aid your search as we enter the wedding season.

5 Things to consider when Selecting a Wedding Guest Dress:

1. 1. What type of wedding is it?  The bride and groom may like their guests to uphold a specific theme, this would usually be noted on the invitation.  The dress code specified could fall under any of the following categories: white tie (extremely formal – floor length gowns), black tie, cocktail, garden or beach wedding.
   2. Do consider the season or weather.  I attended this wedding wedding in early June, North of  the city and took into consideration that the evening might get a bit chilly so I opted for a dress with sleeves.  For very warm climates you may also want to consider the fabric of dress and may opt for shorter sleeves or no sleeves at all.
   3. Do consider if it’s an outdoor wedding requiring you to walk on grass.  This will help you to narrow down your shoe choices.  Stilettos are not the best when navigating grassy areas, so one should opt for wedges, box heels or dressy flats in this scenario.
   4. Do consider your  personal style and the best fit for your body type.
   5. You may also like to consider if there is someone you’d like to impress (hey it’s a possibility right).  A new crush or even an old flame, whoever it is, there is no doubt that you’d want to look your best (wink).

This Eliza J lace dress was purchased at the grand opening of  Nordstrom Rack Canada’s flagship store located at 1 Bloor Street in Toronto; it was one of my lucky finds.  While it was a dress I reluctantly tried, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the fit. The intricate lace detailing as well as the length and hidden pockets were all an added bonus; perfect for my role as a hostess and guest.  Being a church gal, I found this dress to be perfect for Sunday’s and also thought it would be a great dress for graduation.  It is never a bad idea to have a dress that is functional and works well with your lifestyle.
