It has always been a joy of mine to transition my favourite summer pieces into my fall wardrobe, and this denim mini-skirt was by no means an exception. Mixing key pieces from various seasons not only lends character to the look, but also assists in expanding your existing wardrobe selection. In doing the math, you’ll identify that this not only multiplies your outfit selections; but also translates into clear monetary savings, that can easily be allotted elsewhere. While there are many ways that your favourite summer mini denim-skirt can be styled, for now we’ll focus on how you can incorporate it into your fall wardrobe – so let’s delve into it!
4 Tips on Styling your Denim Mini-Skirt for Fall
- Pair it with a chunky knit sweater or a sweatshirt – As the temperature gradually plummets with the onset of Fall, by all means add a later of warmth to keep you warm and cozy.
- Style them with boots – Style your favourite denim mini-skirt with a pair of heeled ankle booties, high boots or over the knee boots, to elevate your look from day to night. Snakeskin boots would be the perfect statement piece for a night out and are on trend this season. I’ve been eyeing these two snakeskin boots at Nordstrom, which can be shopped here and here.
- Add a jacket – The options are endless when choosing a jacket to be paired with your denim mini-skirt. Depending on the occasion or the weather, you can opt for a leather moto jacket, blazer, trench coat or a wool coat.
- Add Oxfords or platform sneakers – Similar to this post, for a more casual look, you can pair your denim mini-skirt with platform or high-top sneakers or a pair of oxfords as pictured in this post.
About this Look
This distressed denim mini-skirt purchased from Zara in their end of season summer sale and was undoubtedly one of my favourite purchases of the season. While this particular skirt is no longer available, you can shop a similar denim mini-skirt here. In a previous blog post, Jumpsuits Under $50 and How to Shop and Save, I share key points on how you can save dollars when shopping and navigating the Zara sale, as well as the best times to shop throughout the year; so be sure to check it out.
For this transitional fall look, I opted to style my distressed denim mini-skirt with a chunky knit camel sweater from Nordstrom Rack Canada (no longer available) however, you can shop a similar sweater that I’ve been eyeing here. I paired this look with nude platform oxfords from Zara (no longer available), but I’ve found and linked a very similar pair at Nordstrom from the brand Halogen, which you can shop here.
The Accessories
When styling this look I couldn’t decide between the snakeskin top handle bag and the green belt bag, both from Top Shop Canada; so I styled the look with both purses. I’d love to know in the comments below which is your favourite. The green belt bag is currently on sale for only $14, and can be shopped at Hudson’s Bay Canada here. It is spacious enough to hold your phone, a small purse and lipstick. I currently have an 8 plus iphone which fits perfectly! While the brown snakeskin bag also pictured is no longer available, I’ve linked similar snakeskin purses that I’ve been eyeing here and here (only $15 from Asos).
I opted for simple jewelry to compliment this look and selected large gold hoops and layered gem gold necklaces, which you can shop, both from Aldo. On my lips is a nude-like liquid lip colour from colourpop cosmetics called chilly chili. This brand carries an array of makeup at affordable prices, so be sure to check them out. You can shop the lip colour that I’m wearing here. As always I have linked similar pieces to this look down below, so happy shopping my friends!
